Oscar-nominated actress Sophie Okonedo, nominated for “Hotel Rwanda”, could easily score her second nomination in this moving film, based on a real life story. Sandra Laing was a black girl born to white parents during apartheid in South Africa. She was kicked out of an all-white boarding school.
Her father (played by Sam Neill) had to go to court to get her legally declared white- only to throw her out when she ended up in love and impregnated by a black man. This is not just a great history lesson; it’s one of the most moving, powerful, best-acted films you’ll see all year.
